Episodic Falling Syndrome ( EFS ) and Dry Eye/Curly Coat Syndrome are two other inherited health problems that are found only in Cavaliers.
Studies show that almost 30% of Cavaliers could be carriers of one or other of these conditions.
There is now an inexpensive DNA test for these conditions and responsible breeders are recommended to test before mating their cavaliers. The certificates they will receive are shown here and you can also check the results of these tests on the Kennel Club website.
When planning a litter, breeders should choose a dog and bitch that cannot combine to produce affected puppies.
There is nothing wrong at all in one cavalier parent being a carrier of either condition, as long as the other parent is certified as clear.
